Purchasing 08 Carrera!

I have just made a purchase of an 08 Carrera with 14K miles on it , a one owner car. I purchased an 02 Carrera my first Porsche (68K miles) in June of last year and traded it and some $$ for the 08 which I am picking up next week out of Southern CA from a small Import car dealership. I did a lot of work on the 02 and of course will not get the money back that I put into it which is just a reality check in the exotic car world.

I am going to purchase a 4 year 50K mile warranty when I pick the car up to maybe protect my investment? I plan on doing oil changes and general maintenance like 2 year brake fluid flushes, etc myself. I also want to remove the plastic Porsche oil filter housing and install the LN spin on filter adapter and Napa Gold 1042 spin on canister filter which as most know allows for a full flow and full filtration system unlike Porsche's current system which bypasses some oil without filtering it before sending it back to the engine. My question to the membership, has anyone had experience as to warranties and performing work on their own vehicles?

I only see the oil filtration upgrade as an improvement to preserving the life of the engine due to better filtration, Porsche might have a different opinion?

Did you check with Porsche to have the car certified? A 2008 under 100000 miles still qualifies and the cost 'may' be about the same as an aftermarket warranty.

In some cases the warranty you purchase may require you to have a shop preform the oil changes and submit it to the company. I have extended warranties on our Cayennes. My warranties require an oil change every 10km or 6 months whichever comes first. I must retain the receipts form the shop I use and submit them online to their data base in order to maintain the warranty. The company want to protect and make sure, me the customer, is preforming the required maintenance. In my case, the warranty cost and oil changes fees have been out weighed by the couple of repairs the warranty company paid out for a cardian shaft, water pump, & fuel pump on Cayenne and the wheel bearings on the other.

In most cases you have to buy the extended warranty at the time of purchase to receive a discounted rate. Not a bad idea to purchase overlapping warranties if there is a short term left on the factory warranty.

According to Magnuson / Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637) is a United States federal law, (15 U.S.C. § 2301 et seq.), the dealer would have to prove conclusively that the modification's you made were the cause of the failure before they could void your warranty.
