Headliner Questions..

Hey guys,

My headliner in my 2006 CS (grey) has dropped over the cargo area. I took off some trim panels and sprayed some glue into the detached area, but as expected... the foam is shot and the glue just made things worse. I have called for quotes and one place wanted $1000, the other (mobile) guy wanted $525 (replace with basic suede..pillars too). The other interior specialty shop said he wouldn't let his guys touch it as there is a lot that can go wrong and he is worried about the sunroof operation.

How hard is it to remove the headliner and pillars from the car? I could do it and have the shop recover the parts and I can install? I am handy (did basic pig engine fixes)... Is the headliner that difficult to remove?

I know Porsche would want over $1k and I just can't justify that.

If you were to remove it yourself and have it recovered, the headliner is not entirely difficult to remove but it is a lot of work. You'll have to remove a, b, and c pillars, all four grab handles, sun visors, roof console and unclip the headliner from the sunroof assembly. Once you have it dropped down pulling it out the back of the rear hatch is fun. Fold all the seats down and hold it diagonally. Once you get it recovered, make sure you get all new clips for the sunroof cut out.

Removing headliners is hard to do without damaging things including the plastic trim pieces that must be removed to get at the headliner.

Putting a new one in is easy once you get the old one out. That said I'm not sure how pricey new ones are.

Are the sagging headliners the Alcantera version?

I just redid mine. Opted for the black alcantara. Got the pillers and handles from a wrecked turbo. ($499) including sun visors.

Then had the main piece recovered. Cost around $1500 including parts and labour.

Not cheap but a dramatic change for the better.

I think if you were to do just the main headliner you could get it done for $500.

The material comes with the foam backing. So you have to scrape all the old stuff off. This is a DIY. But for the extra professional look Id rather pay to have it done.
