Which part of the actual seatbelt receptacle fails causing this airbag light to come on?


Im a little confused with this bit. People say you can just clean it up but what part is failing ?

You can clean it up by spraying electrical cleaner into the female end of the bucket and also use canned air to blow it dry. Some also remove the seat and clean the attachments at the grounding point. What are your codes?

Haven't read them yet, waiting for cable to arrive but just prepping for if it is this.

Why can't I just put a resistor across the electrical connection for seatbelt buckle to make it thing the seat is always buckled. And then just clear the light?

If you have a Fault Code 21, it is an ignition circuit driver problem on the clock spring under the steering wheel airbag. If you have a fault code of 45,46 or 48 or 49 you have a seat belt wiring harness problem.

The later codes can be found in a Porsche Technical Service Bulletin #6924.

The TSB involves replacing 2 or 4 pins depending on which seat. The old wires contain more tin in the fittings and the tin eventually causes connectivety problems and thus the seatbelt light comes on. The new pins contain more gold and less tin. You also replace the buckle and install new ground wiring harnesses.

sometimes you can just unplug the connectors under the seat and re-plug them back in with some contact cleaner. But they will come back on after a time.
