Failure of engine comp. blower fan on 2005 997 C2S

Hello everyone, I have been getting this fault indication for a while now: "Failure of engine comp. blower fan" on my 2005 997 C2S. It comes on with a beep and the red light on the coolant temp gauge starts flashing. It seems to occur whenever the fan should/does kick on while driving when it gets too hot.

The fan seems to work fine during normal driving and stays/comes on after shutting the motor off. Seems to be problem with the temperature sensor.

I have already replaced the fan because the housing was cracked/broken. That made no difference.

Then I pulled out the temperature sensor on the passenger intake manifold and it was not attached to anything. It's just hanging there. It looks like a metal probe with an attached electrical connector. It's just lying there between the manifold intakes.

1. Is it supposed to be attached to anything? Is the metal probe supposed to be attached/inserted into anything?

2. It looks like there is a recess in the probe that fits into a slot on the manifold. This picture from Pelican parts shows the slot at the top of the manifold but mine is at the bottom. It does not want to stay in there when I try to squeeze it in.

Problem solved, the grommet that holds the sensor in place was missing.
