I have a 1998 C2 which has just had the passenger door seal replaced as I complained about wind noise after purchasing the car.

I saw the seal replaced so I know that has been done, however the mechanic informed me that he had adjusted the striker plate to pull in the door slightly.

The door is more difficult to shut, so I tried to adjust the striker plate, but no improvement there.

The noise seems to be coming from the back edge of window from the middle downwards.

Any help please on :-

1) how to adjust the striker plate so it shuts better

2) can the angle of the window be adjusted to cure the wind noise ?

1. To adjust the door striker you're going to need a size 8 tripe square socket. If you look at the striker and close the door as far as you can while still being able to see the striker with a flashlight, you should be able to see how high to position the striker.

2. While I've never done this and I don't know if it would work for sure or not, I would imagine you can loosen the bottom 10mm nuts on the window regulator and push the bottom away from the car so that the window will up towards the car more. If you want to try this there 4 rubber plugs on the bottom side of your door, remove them and loosen the 10mm nuts. Either scribe or take note of where the bolts were positioned before you undo them, so you can go back to where they were if you don't like how you have changed it. Push the studs away from the car and retighten. I would probably try this with the window in the up position. Again, I don't know if this will work or not but I've thought about it before.

I had the same wind noise on mine, and found that it was because the window was not going high enough. This caused the top edge to get sucked outwards at speeds above about 85mph, and break the seal at the top.

Adjusting the door strike plate was absolutely the wrong thing to do, and I would question that with your dealer. There is a procedure in the manual for adjusting the pressing force of the window against the seals, which is pretty much as PTEC describes. There is also a procedure for adjusting the door window height, and angle in the longitudinal direction.

you can adjust the pressure of the glass against the window seal from under the door. 996 Workshop manual documents it quite well.

There are 4 plastic caps under the door, one of them has a screw that you can move in and out (horizentally) and one of them you can adjust up and down the height of the glass (actually the stopper).

Stiker has nothing to do with it. It's a simple job, you can do it yourself.
