OK ..so I spent a hour taking apart the rear lights and cleaning and checking everything.

It is true that USA 996 Models only have only the Rear driver side fog light??

The right rear fog light has no power to it. I changed the bulb and wiring harness still nothing.

Fuse good.. contacts clean and maybe a relay somewhere??

thanks so much!!!

Both tail lights are lit - as well as the one fog light.

I think two rear fog lights look like your brake lights are stuck on.

If you do a search you will find a few folks have done a mod for both lights (of course you will have to put a bulb in the currently empty socket).

Fog lights originated in Europe and are mandatory in many of the countries there. I went to high school in Belgium in 1980 or so, and my father had brought over an Oldsmobile (!!!! -- don't ask). He had to retrofit a fog light on the driver's side. There never was such a thing as a passengers fog light.

To this day, I don't think that there's such a thing.

Even my wife's AMG CL55 only has a driver's fog light. It defeats the purpose to have fog lights on both sides of the rear. It's just not done that way.

I suspect it's a directional thing. If you know the light is on the drivers side, then you know the rest of the car - even if you can't see it - is to the right of that red light. As was said. if both are on, it looks like brake lights.

audi's, volvo's, jag's sold in NA seem to have two foglights light up in the back.

Highly irritating - I turn on my high beams when I'm behind them and there's no fog or rain.
