Just bought my first 996TT, having owned an '88 911 cab for a number of years. Had all the fluids changed and bought a replacement oil filter. First, I was really surprised when I found the filter is in the engine bay and not under the car, second was the frail appearance of the Mahle replacement. Two questions:

1. Is there a more substantial replacement out there?

2. Can the filter be changed without draining the oil system? It seems it may be a bit messy, but looks like it is possible.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Yes, the filter can be replacet without draining the oil system, further there is nothing wrong with the Original filter brand.
