VIN Plate issue 1970 car

Hi, sorry for such a short introduction and not really been on here for a while and only ever really only lurked in these parts as I have always had 996 /997’s (still have) but I have been looking at buying something a lot older

Now I have found a car (matching Numbers) that needs some work on it done but there is an issue with the vin plate its marketed as a 911T but the plate says it’s an 911E but the serial number resolves to

Specs on this 911 are as such:

Built in 1970

911T

Karmann-body coupe

Thanks for checking the VINtage.

So what gives…has the plate been remade? Should I be suspicious, love the car and don’t want to miss it if it all checks out

Any help given would be much appreciated

Did you buy the car from a Wayne Krieger or Motor Meister? There are a number of dodgy Porsche sellers in NorCal and they have been known to tamper with the VIN to 'upgrade' the cars for free.

The VIN decoder or COA will tell you what it should be.
