I pulled the large connector off of the Central Locking System module (under the driver's seat) and measured the discrete inputs for continuity to ground.  For most of them, I could change the input by manipulating the device (like opening the center console).  Everything seemed to work properly (see results below).  I don't know how to test the interior motion sensor input since I can't set the alarm.  I am still getting fault 34 "Interior sensor faulty" but I haven't found a faulty sensor.  I also substituted another CLS module, DME module and key transponder but the symptoms remain the same.  Does that ODB II Manual have any more ideas?

Pin Function State
5 Door safe - driver side grounded
7 Door contact - passenger side grounded when lift handle
13 Engine lid grounded when lid open
15 Door lock cylinder - unlock grounded when key turned CCW
19 Safe motor close open
25 Door contact - driver side grounded when lift handle
26 Center console grounded when lid open
27 Radio contact grounded
28 Door safe - passenger side grounded
30 Door locked - driver side grounded when door locked
31 Front trunk grounded when trunk open
32 Door locked - passenger side grounded when door locked
35 Door lock cylinder - lock grounded when key turned CW

Model: 1999 996 C2 6-speed

Symptoms: 2 beeps when locking door, passenger door does not lock, key fob button inoperative, CLS LEDs (under windshield) are dark, window up/down switches inoperative, interior lock button inoperative, interior lights inoperative, trunk/engine lights inoperative.  However, windows drop 1/4 inch when opening door from inside or out, windows roll up/down by holding door key in CW or CCW position.

The interior sensor is the one above the inside review mirror, and the system is saying it is defective.  I’d suggest looking at the sensor assembly above the mirror.

Alarm Fault 47

Possible cause of fault:
• Short circuit to ground/open circuit between alarm system control module and door locks
• Door lock faulty

Fairly common is a worn and broken mechanical latch in the door lock itself.

Guys,  Thanks for the information in this and several other threads.  I was able to fix an new problem on my 2002 Boxster.

The passenger window stopped dropping the 1/2 inch on either inside or outside handle pull.

It was really odd, I took out the latch and while wiggling it around the window would drop and raise back up repeatedly.

I took the latch apart and cleaned it and re-soldered the pc board.  Put it back together and it as working fine.

Thanks again,

Ken

I've been searching for about 3 days and finally stumbled on this thread.  I'll be making use of the information as I trouble shoot my problem.  I'm having the following symptoms which are similar but not identical to some described earlier in the thread:

1. The car beeps when I lock the doors
2. The right (passenger) window does not drop when I pull either the interior or exterior handle.
3. The red LED on the lock button turns on at random.

I scanned the alarm system with my Durametric and had the following results:

34
Passenger compartment monitoring sensor, short circuit to ground
Status: not present
Occurance Counter: 1
This fault is displayed for informational purposes, it is not an indication of a problem and no repair is needed.

16
Voltage failure at terminal 30 with alarm system active
Status: not present
Occurance Counter: 1

25
Status lead, signal converter, short circuit to B+
Status: not present
Occurance Counter: 2

I suspect that there is a problem with the passenger door, possibly with the microswitch, but I will be thinking this through before I start throwing parts at the problem.

I would clear the codes and then lock and unlock the car - re-read the codes. Those should be the clear problem.

Usually one beep means there is a zone open. Based on the codes the door lock microswitch looks likely.

Thanks

I cleared the codes and the problem persists.  I’ve found instructions and videos showing how to replace the switch.  I had planned to upgrade the door speakers.  It looks like the projects present an opportunity for synergy.
