Tire size / fitting / brand question.

I have about 15k on my stock pzero tires, and felt the grip is just not enough anymore. I have a 2000 bxtr S with upgraded 18 inch rim. I believe stock tire size is

225/40 on front

265/35 on rear

I am thinking about fitting 235/40 on front and 275/35 on rear. Anyone tried that? would it fit without rubbing?

Also, my friend recommended kumho's ecsta supra 712 for the price / performance ratio. The price definitely sounds attractive, with about 100 for the front and 160 for the rear (so save me about 400 bucks per set from getting the pzeros / pilot sport / etc) Does anyone have experience with these tires???

A couple of things you need to be aware of:

1. There are cheaper tires out there but unless they are N rated (porsche approved) then you are on your own. Personally, I would not put on a tire that was not Porsche approved N rated.

2. There are different sizes you that you can put on different size rims. Your 18' rims have a width as well. Depending on your width will dictate what fits. You can go onto the tirerack website and select your tire size that you would like to try and then hit "specs" for the tire you choose and it will tell you the size rim that will accomodate that tire. FYI....your rim width and offset is stamped onto your rim nextr to the valve stem.

One more thing, the suggested ratio for front and rear combo's is 225-40/265-35 for the 18''. I wouldn't suggest altering that or you start to bring understeer into the equation.

I have an '01 S with 18 inch wheels, also had PZeros that were not a very good ridde. I put Michelin Sport PS2's on it; it's a brand new car and the tire is plenty wide; looks great from the rear. Also, the sizes you mentioned above will be too wide for the rims you have. You'd need to go to wider rims to accomodate the width of the tires you're thinking about (or so I was told by my tire guy at Tirerack). Also if you consider lowering the car (like I did) then you'd really have rubbing problems. Check out attached photos of rear with diffuser (shows tires).

One more bit of info....if you check the spec's of the tires, you'll see that the overall diameter is larger therefore it will impact the speedometer and front OD should match rear for best handling.
