Removing CDR23 impossible?

I went to my local Porsche dealer to explore whether the stock CDR23 in my Cayenne MY05 could be removed without causing problems or not. I was somewhat disappointed to hear that removing the radio causes the diagnostics system to report various error codes.

Isn't there really any way to remove the radio without this problem?

Yes, you need to remove the radio from the MOST configuration using a PST2 or PIWIS tester. All dealers and most high end shops have these.

Well, my dealer is the only authorized service center in the country so they should have the proper tester. However, they couldn't find the option you are suggesting in it. Are you sure there should be one?

It should be in the MOST control section of the PS2 (or PIWIS tester).

Here is the quote from the manual.

22. In the menu 'CDR23' select 'MOST required installed components 

list'. 

23. If the items in the actual list differ from those in the required list, update the 'MOST required installed components list' to the status of the 'MOST actual installed components list' by coding.

Once the radio is removed from the list - you will not be able to turn it on. Also, if you have have a factory amp you will not be able to use it unless it is one that allows hard wiring also.

You might have to have a shop with a PST2 (or PIWIS tester) turn off the amp and radio. This would signify there is no radio or amp on the MOST bus and the new units should work fine.

Loren. I see you are the resident electronics GURU. Glad you are here to say the least.

This being the first (03' Boxster) true sports car I have ever owned I don't want to screw anything up. But with other cars and trucks I have always had some sort of Power Tuner or OBD type diagnostic tool. Is it worth spending the money on one of these?

After rereading the Durammetric site, seems there tool does very little. Any ideas on any others?

The Durametric tool is a great asset for OBD 2 and all fault code detection as well quite a bit of real time data. At this time the Durametic tool can not change any settings except to reset fault codes. I think they plan on adding some of these options but today you will need someone with a PST2 or PIWIS tester to change any MOST function setting as well reprogramming other options.
