Clock/ Oil Level Display Blank?

My 2000 Boxster S has suddenly lost the clock and oil level display. All other instruments are there and working, no fault codes. Any ideas? Thanks.

I had the exact same issue with my 2000 boxter a month ago. On certain days with the light certain ways I could see the clock still on but the light shining in had to be perfect. Anyways it was a real simple fix, the light bulb had burned out on the dash for that part of the cluster. I replaced the light bulb and it worked perfectly. Not real hard to do and lots of articles on how to remove the instrument cluster to get at the light.

Shine a bright flash light on it when it is not displaying, you should be able to make out the digits, and as the previous posted pointed out, should just be a bulb.

If you can't see the display, then you would be looking at board repair or cluster replacement (both are $$ compared with bulb).

If one were to change the color of the bulb, will the color of the display change?

yes, in fact.... i went to all blue for mine.

I'd like red. Do you have a source for the various cluster bulbs? I might just do them once I figure out if the new cluster will help.

There was a business I used www.porscheleds.com, but it looks like they are gone... perhaps there is documentation somewhere on how to do this.

I went all Blue for my dash, I even did the A/C controls and the switches all blue. I must say it looks amazing at night! I just used EBAY for the lights. Just search for Boxster lights and you should get many hits, I dont know if red was a option. I think it was either bright White or Blue.

i went overboard too along with the entire dash I resolderd the seat memory and sunroof LEDs with blue. It's helps the interior is metropol blue and matches my pioneer HU.

There are spare bulbs installed in the dash, you can just use one of those. For example, my car doesn't have traction control but there is a bulb in that indicator.
