Good morning,

A customer brought us an 03 S where the glove box would not open at all. The push button AND the release latch were both broken. I had to remove the entire radio/HVAC stack to access all of these components to release the glove box so i could access the screws in order to remove and replace the latch ***'y.

After putting everything back together, we are now getting "PROTECT" on the Radio (CDR23). From reading these forums, I gather that I MUST send the vehicle to the dealer to get the "code" programmed back into the either the radio unit or the DME?

My question is, is it possible, using AUTEL or LAUNCH scanners, to program this myself? I've been able to reset service lights and program distances in this, but cannot program the radio/DME?

Not only this but I'm not able to communicate with the PCM and cannot see PCM2 on my list of active modules.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Adawg

The CDR 23 is "coded" so that it matches the MOST fiber optic system in the car; this way the radio cannot be removed and installed into another vehicle. This is done using either the OEM PST II or PIWIS systems:

Checking the coding of the CDR23 and the amplifier is correct for the vehicle:1. Using the PST2, in the menu "Control units" select "PCM2/CDR23",2. Select menu item "CDR23" and then "Coding",3. Check whether the designations for the vehicle coding "Type", "Variant" and "Left/Right-hand drive" are correct for the vehicle,4. Select menu item "Amplifier" and then "Coding",5. Check whether the designations for the vehicle coding "Type", "Variant" and "Left/Right-hand drive" are correct for the vehicle.

I seriously doubt any aftermarket scanner is going to do this.

It shouldn't have gone into protect mode just from removing the radio, are you sure everything is connected correctly on the unit and no fuses failed? Coding and protection warning are two different items.
