Tightening all my lug nuts today (2001 996 C4) and every wheel had one lug that was not anywhere near the correct torque. It was low. The other 4 on each wheel were tight.

Is this just sloppiness or is there some reason for it?

I have noticed that in one of the tyre fitting shops that I have used that the fitter did not tighten up the nut with the anti theft bolt to full torque. I asked him about this and he told be that on some cars the anti theft bolt was prone to head failure with the head rounding off. On my Porsche wheel nuts I do all five up to full torque.

All should be at the same value.

Odds and evens - same torque  ??
There is only one lug torque spec value................96 ft. lb.

And you should really re-torque the bolts again after say 50 or 100 miles. They will take a little more to get back to spec (96 ft.lbs.).

Thanks.....

I figured it was a mistake, but you never know.

There aren't any security nuts on the wheels, but there was the piece you need to remove security lugs in the side pocket when I bought the car. My guess is that HiLux2400 figured it out.

Lots of guys use torque sticks on their impact guns.... I dont really trust them..... could be something like that.

And I have worked with people who only lightly torque the security bolts like HiLux2400 mentioned.

I always use a torque wrench on wheels, not worth making that mistake IMHO

Often the wheel is not perfectly seated until the second lug is placed.

Thus, the first lug usually must be readjusted after applying the remaining lugs.

I bet someone forgot to retighten the first lug.
