New to this website and forums! My car randomly illuminated the "check engine," sign for a while, it went away for a month and then stayed for another 2 months. I just changed the spark plugs and oil recently (a week ago), but it went away for a day or two, now its back. The display in the instrument panel says, "Service in 2500km." What does it mean? The engine sign has showed up (without saying service in 2500km), like this a lot in the past but the dealership says its nothing, they say its just a technical problem cayennes have. What should I do? :cursing:

The service notification is a mileage based reminder to get the oil changed, etc. You need either a PIWIS unit or the Durametric software system to clear it (nothing else works).

Check engine light and service reminder are two different events. Launch also has scan tools that can reset the service reminders. As for the check engine lights, it's something I wouldn't ignore and you'll need to have the DME scanned for fault codes and interpreted. Do not operate the vehicle if the check engine light is flashing on and off.

Which "Launch" models do the reset? They seem to have so many different units at pricing all over the map.

All launch models share the basic software but different hardware packages. I've used both the Diagun and GDS to reset the service lights. The scanners can provide some data that Durametric can't but they are not as users friendly as Durametric. Launch customer service is awful where as Durametric is excellent.

With both those models costing way more than the Durametric enthusiast version, the choice would seem obvious..............

That's very true but you said that only the PIWIS or Durametric would clear it as nothing else would work which isn't true. I was offer a different choice that maybe a local garage might have if he was shopping around.

I am not challenging that point as I was unaware of anything other than the PIWIS or Durametric system being able to do it. Last time we looked at Launch, we found very limited Porsche DME or systems capability and relatively expensive hardware; they have apparently been listening and doing their homework. I have also read online that some VW software systems are capable of it as well, only to be subsequently told by the company that does the software that it cannot. Live and learn............

Learning is what this site is all about and I know that I have learnt many many things from my time here. I also have Rosstech and it will not work on the Cayenne and have been told by Rosstech that attempts to try can cause can bus issues. Durametric is the best option by far.

Get the car scanned, either Durametric or PIWIS, that will tell you if there are any related codes, and the system can also check and reset any service reminders as well.
