Hi All

I have very odd problem with my 996 Targa Tiptronic S 2002 model

Last week on my way home the sun blind refused to open I then tried the targa roof which also would not open, when I got home found that the hatch would not open either via either the sill switch or the key fob but the rear windscreen wiper worked fine.

Checked here and spoke to the main dealer and the consensus was it was most likely the micro switches of which there are three in the interlock (Close Assist) and one behind the interlock for the glass roof position. I disconnected the Battery and removed the interlock and found the micro switches which seemed to work but were a little greased up so I replaced them all.

Reassembled and all worked fine, locked the car via the key fob patted myself on the back for another job well done.

Next day I jumped in the car and the fault was back just as before, and after many hours of testing I can describe the fault as this if the battery is disconnected long enough for a soft reset approx. 15 mins then reconnected the roof, hatch and blind will all work as normal and if the car is lock and reopen via the key fob within a minute then it continues to work but if I lock the car via the key fob and wait more than two minutes it will fail and the only way to get it functioning again is to disconnect the battery again.

To me it seems that the Alarm is telling the Targa Roof Control Unit to shut down?

Any ideas before I fork out £85 at the main dealer for a diagnostic code read out.
