Headlight won't come out

Hey everyone,

I tried to remove my passenger side headlight on my 2006 cayenne s today but it won't budge. I read the forum and heard it was very easy. I utilized the tool located in the trunk to release the housing. When I try to turn it, the headlight won't pop out. I don't want to over do it and break something. I am positive that I'm turning it in the right direction. Please help.

Try removing the headlight on the other side and see if the force required is the same.

This might seem basic, but for my 911 the instructions in the manual are for the left headlight where the tool requires to be turned anticlockwise when looking outwards from the middle of the vehicle. The method for the right light is a mirror image requiring the tool be turned clockwise when looking outwards from the middle of the vehicle.

Maybe this comparison is the same for your vehicle.

There is an arrow showing where to turn the tool then just slide the headlight out.

Kinda similar topic, I also got a warning light for "check brake light". It turns out to be the 3rd brake light. It didn't fail completely. It comes on and off. Every time it goes off it triggers the warning. Do you guys know how to R&R the 3rd brake light? Thanks.

try turning the tool back (a little) to the lock possition as you pull the headlight out.

I have a 2005 Cayenne. Just got it a few weeks ago but have to replace the Xenons ("dipped beam" error). I had a bit of trouble with the passenger side light "fixture/module" too but not as much as you have described. Initially I had trouble with the driver's side lights first so I know how a good one is suppose to come out. With my pass. side one, it was stuck at the point where it was just to come out, but didn't. At that point, I needed to give the "inside forward tip" a nudge to free the light.

I hope "inside foward tip" makes sense, how about just "forward tip". The nudge direction is towards the engine. I kind of leverages the whole thing. Hope it doesn't crack anything if you try (disclaimer).

Aside: Do you guys have to replace your bulbs often due to a stiff ride? I know I just got the vehicle and its a 2005, but I had to replace like 7 bulbs already (two being Xenons [Another thing, isn't it pricey to run Xenons as daytime running lights?]).

I am having the same problem on a cayenne 2004 s. Yesterday i was able to take the headlight out to check connection and tighten headlight adapter screws. Today i was trying to take the headlight out to change low beam bulb, it comes almost out but get stuck somewhere. Tried turning the access screw in all + - directions, no luck. I do not want to apply too much force so i don't make it worse. Any tips to take the headlight out.

Next to the port where you use the tool is a rubber cover . Remove this cover , this enables you to grasp and pull the light assembly forward.
