I have an 03 996 TT and today as I was about to turn on my car, the key just came apart. (See photos.) I am hoping I don't need a whole new key. is there a little hook on the spring loaded release mechanism on the bottom part? Does anyone know what I really should be assessing? Any assistance in identifying the part number would be greatly appreciated!

Go with the Design Key (there is a TSB here - including the part number). Just take your key insides (including the immobilizer pill) and transfer them to the new key. Pretty easy really. About $100 as I recall.

Wow! Just tracked down the TSB and I just emailed Sunset to see what it'll cost me. I'll see how it goes. Huge thanks to you Loren!!

done! Super fast service from Sunset Porsche and the design key cost me $106 (part 000 044 000 83). The transfer was super easy with the TSB. Now I have a whole new key again! Thanks Loren!
