I have a track-dedicated 996 (1999) with snell headers and mufflers and fabspeed xpipe (catalytic deleted). I am considering removing the mufflers and installing straight pipes from the xpipe out. Any idea if the reduction in back pressure that I expect to obtain will decrease the performance (that is, reduction of low end torque)? Any detrimental effects of this mod? Is it worth doing? Thanks for any input.

For the track it may be worth doing.. For the street no. I did a cat delete on my 996 and it drove horribly (on the street.) No low end torque. But I have heard for the track where you are on the top end most of the time it can be a benefit

As far as your mufflers go I really doubt these will be any performance gain. It sure will be loud..

I never noticed a reduction in torque with my bypass pipes on the street and definitely not on the autox course.

But with my stock headers and cat and bypass pipes, I'm at the sound limit 100 db for my local autox region.

I can't imagine how loud your setup would be.

I have removed my cats and did not notice much in the way of additional sound. Stock headers - hacked mufflers on 1999 Cab.
