Hey guys, looking for some insights.

I am aware of a number of different reputable OBD scanners on the market that will give me streaming values for less than half the price of Durametric.

Since I have a very early year car what are the capabilities of the durametric scanner vs others? According to their website the first year Motronic has lesser capabilities?

I will be buying a scanner with streaming capabilities but want to know if the porsche specific development is worth the money? All i need is diagnostic capabilities.

cheers!

We get people coming into the shop all the time with "the next great Porsche diagnostic tool that will do everything for half the price of the Durametric system"; only problem is they usually end up only being able to half what the Durametric system does, or less. As Loren noted, the Durametric is hard to beat on either performance or price.

I've read over their marketing info, was just looking for any insights from users. The website doesn't really say anything, not that they are obligated to share their secrets to tire-kickers like me :)

I have worked on a couple first-year/odd-year BMWs where the motronic was completely different then the years adjacent.

I use my iphone for lots of different things and was thinking of getting a certain OBD cable to use with other softwares, sadly the more I read about that product the less I want it! I will probably get the durametric in the end. heheh

The Durametric system is the diagnostic backbone of my shop, and in use just about constantly. It is a very worthwhile investment, and one that also holds its resale value for those that leave the Porsche fold for whatever reasons.

A lot of diagnostic tool companies spend a lot more on their marketing than they do on their products, Durametric goes the other way about and says little, but let’s their products and customers speak volumes for them.

And, just in passing, we have had several customers try a multiple software systems on their Android or iPhones, with mediocre or inconsistent results at best when compared to even generic OBD II purpose built scanners. The phone may be “smart”, but sometimes just not smart enough……………

Just a reply from an owner and daily driver - invest in the Durametric. I have it and use it often to just check on the state of things. There really is nothing better for the owner/garage mechanic/DIY. It is worth the price for peace of mind.

I have really enjoyed using mine. So far it has saved money and time for me. I try to do as much as I can on my car. With the Durametric and the forums I can do most anything. Yes it is a little expensive but worth it.
