OBDII Scanner to read 2003 Cayenne codes

Dear all,

do you know whether I can use a standard OBDII scanner to read the error codes of my 2003 Cayenne S. The connector is a 16-pin one.

yes you can. Only downfall is OBD has to be generic for all makes/models, so the "P codes" that will spit out are also generic meaning it won't tell you exactly, but it will say "bank 2 lean condition."

Good for general fault clearing and such though, but i wouln't go out and buy one if that's what you're asking.

For my money Durametric is the only way to go - reset service intervals, reset alarm and airbag lights, etc., etc.

Like Loren said, Durametric is best tool you can get for that price. If you buying tool, and you want tool, which you'll use it on other brands, not just Porsche, you can get Launch Diagun x431. It's great diagnostic tool, which works on almost all car brands. It works in all Porsche modules, you just can't do coding.

If your error codes are because of CEL on (emission related), the OBDII scanners will be able to retrieve the code(s). They are $30-40 standalone (Actron) or if you use an Android phone, you can get a mini OBDII for $15 and get the "Torque" app for $5. I found them very good as a diagnostic tool because they work on all cars manufactured after 1996.

If your codes are from body modules, SRS, automatic transmission, etc., then no, Durametric is the cheapest tool that can read those.

The Generic will work on standard OBDII codes but not on manufacturer specific (custom) codes. Durametric works pretty well and is getting better. If you have a Volkswagen or Audi product and have or thinking about getting Ross Tech Vagcom, it works well on the Cayenne as most every module is a standard Bosch unit from the Tourag which Vagcom is also designed to work on. I have Durametric and Vagcom. I still get an occaisonal fault on some modules from the Durametric but the Vagcom works 100% of the time.

True. Vagcom works perfect on all modules with all coding functions, except PCM (radio).

With Vagcom you can do that, and much more, including coding functions on almost all units, except radio. If you'll have problems connecting Vagcom to Cayenne, you have to join pin 7 and pin 3 on the cable together, and you should connect without problems.
