Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and Porsche ownership. I purchased a 97 boxster with 52,000 miles on it recently and am very excited to get out there and drive it, once the weather in Massachusetts warms up that is. I've read through the forum and there is so much great info, I know this is going to be a great resource as I work my way through my new toy.

The issue i'm having currently is with the top. I had a cracked rear window on the car when I purchased it so I removed the top and assembly to take to an upholstery shop to have a new window sewn in. I had the top in "service mode" and was able to remove the top and frame without issue. The problem is instead of leaving the top in service mode with the clam shell open (as I should have) I lowered the clam shell without refitting the top and now for the life of me cant get it to re open. I'm sure this is a result of not having the top on the car since it opened and closed fine before but I cant re install the top until I get the clam shell to open back up.

Any help for this first time boxster owner would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Roger

Roger:

Congratulations on your new acquisition and welcome to the forum! :welcome:

The most likely reason that your clamshell will not go up now is because when you removed the top and frame assembly, the B-Pillar microswitch (only in 1997 to 1999 Boxsters) is no longer being activated. The double relay (in the relay tray above the driver's side kick panel) causes the electric motor to reverse direction when it gets the appropriate signal from the B-Pillar microswitch.

Make sure that you have re-installed and connected the B-Pillar microswitch and that it is opening and closing at the appropriate time in the closing cycle of the convertible top frame. That frame's B-Pillar on the driver's side, is what depresses and releases the microswitch.

Regards, Maurice.

Thanks Maurice! I reconnected the microswitch and just as you stated I was then able to get the clamshell to operate. Appreciate the help.
