Black tachometer face for the Boxster S?

I read an review in Excellance Magazine on the 2013 Boxster, on the second page it mentioned that there was a 'no-cost' option to change the tach face on the Boxster S from aluminum-colour to black to match the gauge to the left... but so far no one has been succesful in this quest so...

I am thinking the other option would be to change the tachometer gauge to the one used in the base model.

Can we get the part number and cost for this? Would this be a DIY job?

The gauge face is not available separately from Porsche. When you order the car you get a different cluster part number. There is about a dozen different part numbers. I suspect that some of the aftermarket companies will make gauge faces for these eventually. I have had a 981 cluster on back order for 4 months so I have not had a 981 specific cluster apart yet. But I have had the Panamera, and 2011+ Cayenne cluster apart and they look to be a similar design. Because of the LCD and associated electronics, these new clusters are much more difficult to disassemble then the old clusters were. So while a DIY change over of the face plates would be possible it will be a much tougher job then the previous model cars were.

I see, then maybe what is needed is the tachometer assembly, not just the face?

Or better yet, the ability to specify a black gauge at order time... I don't know what they were thinking with that aluminum look!

Well I have a bit of an update, I asked my dealer to check into this, he said there was nothing he could see to change the tach face to black in the 'S'. As a follow up he contacted Germany, the reply back was that it was not option at this time.

I guess it goes back to you cannot beleive all that you read.

Unfortunately you wont be able to fit the base model cluster either as the speed range is different and i suspect the clocks are calibrated to the model based on the pick up from the gearbox / wheel hub and gearing used. You could try contacting reap automotive in the uk , they have been changing clock faces on porsches for many years.

I have on order the face for a 2008 Cayenne S - from stock black to brown loike the leather.

I will let you know how it goes, after i do the Swap.
