05 955 Turbo won't rev above 4000 rpm

Hello,

I bought the car this last July. 150,000km, one owner, full service history. Porsche 112 point check and serviced (oil/filter) by OPC at that time with no issues. I have put 10,000 km on the car since.

Absolutely no problems until this morning (ran perfectly yesterday):

Noticed at first, before engine was warm, it seemed a bit "off"... a bit rough.

On a 15 km drive to work, I noticed it didn't accellerate well at certain points, lower speeds/gears.

At WOT it sometimes kicked in normally, others it didn't (I didn't pay attention to the boost gauge for any irregularities.)

In the parking lot at work, in P and in N, I tried WOT and gradual increase of throttle.

In both circumstances, the engine would not rev above 4000 rpm. No backfiring or smoke. The engine just sat at 4000 rpm, no signs of "flooding" even with the accelerator pressed to the floor. Is there a rev limiter in P and N?

Oil is topped up regularly.

Only burn premium gas.

No mods.

It is my daily driver and I drive the speed limit. If there is no limit, I do my best to drive that as well, often topping 250 km/hr on the Autobahn, with no issues.

I primarily drive in Manual mode.

There are no fault codes/warnings indicated on the display.

I have searched here and other forums, finding similar issues related to the 996, but not the 955, with many different "possible" solutions.

I would greatly appreciate some troubleshooting tips. I am going to need brakes soon and would prefer to not have to take this to the OPC for troubleshooting/repair unless absolutely necessary as the Dollar to Euro exchange rate is killing me!

Any ideas?

It is normal that the engine would not rev above 4000 RPM in P and N, it's a safety system which intervenes on unloaded motor. Let the error read and post them, without codes it's still guessing.

I just went for a lunch time drive. Throttle response was normal through all gears in both D and M modes. Maybe this was a one-off occurance. There have been no fault/error codes displayed.

We still have certain stretches on the autobahn with no speed restrictions. Fortunately two of those sections are within a five minute drive of my house. Once my summers are on I will see if the p!g will do the 300 km/hr on the speedometer. I think it won't have any porblems. Ironically, I have had only one speeding ticket. 57 in a 50...go figure.

You will need to hook up a Durametric or PIWIS to read the error codes
