2001 C4. The old gas cap hinge broke, so I picked up a replacement hinge. I'm wondering if I got the correct part. The sockets line up with the old pin out, but the fuel cap tether at the bottom seems to block it from snapping into place. I can't be the only one to replace this part - is it just a matter of lining it up or do folks need to do a bit of dremel work on a replacement hinge.

Part number is PA6.6-gf15 jpw, from what is printed on the plastic.

:welcome:

Sorry, but that is not a Porsche part number.

The part number for hinge has changed and the replacement should fit perfectly.

Original p/n 996-201-063-00 replacement 997-201-063-00. They are about the same price MSRP $14.89

I had the same issue - it's the right part. I ended up removing the tether, installing the hinge and then reconnecting the tether.

+1 to removing the tether, it's what i had to do too.

Could someone school me in how to go about removing the tether? I've tried pulling, pushing... no dice, and I'd rather keep it so I can re-insert it once the hinge is back in place.

They do. They just appear as one piece. The center pin can be pushed. In your second photo, you can see the center pin spreading out the rivet at the back to lock the rivet in place.

How are people re-attaching the tether? I tried placing it back through the original hole, but it won't fit due to the larger size of the new hinge. Attempting to place it in the through the middle hole doesn't work either, as it interferes with the opening & closing motion of the piece.

Any suggestions?
