One headlight turns on and then off

I have a 2000 c4 with xenon lights. Starting recently, when I start the car, the driver side headlight would turn on, do the level adjustment thing while flickering a few times and then turn itself off, leaving the passenger side headlight on only. Anyone has any suggestion where to start looking to trouble? Thanks a bunch.

Usually a the problem is either a bad headlight switch (test by wiggling it when the problem happens) or a bad/broken connection on the problem headlight.

Sometimes when someone does not properly re-insert the headlight into the bumper they can push pins out of the socket or break the socket. But start with the headlight switch because they do wear out.

Loren's idea of the headlight switch is probably the best bet. Since this is only happening on one side. If the switch checks out ok, you might look at the Xenon ballast for that side.
