2004 911 C2, base stereo, which I am upgrading to a Blaupunkt Toronto 420BT.

Question about the windshield antenna amp...

How the antenna amp is powered in the stock configuration? Is it powered from the CDR-23, like a traditional (motorized up/down) power antenna? The standard DIN plug A pin 5? Or is it powered directly and independently of the radio from another switched circuit?

Ssome other connections on DIN plug A of the CDR-23 are a bit non-standard, and before I start feeding 12V+ from the radio into the wiring harness, I wanted to double check.

I've ordered the Bentley 996 service manual, but it hasn't arrived yet. Hopefully it will have 2003/2004 wiring diagrams.

Thanks in advance for any help. This web site is a great resource!

I don't have the same radio as yours, but on the back of the radio, mine has a label that indicates what each of the terminals does. On mine, #5 reads, "Controlled Output for Auto Antenna."

If you tap into the wire that is plugged into that terminal, that will turn on whenever the radio is turned on and turn off whenever the radio is turned off. I tapped into that for my iPod charging cable.

Hooked up the aftermarket radio yesterday, a Blaupunkt 420BT. Without the radio power antenna connected to car harness Connector A pin 5, super crappy FM. With the power antenna wire feeding the harness, nice reception.

The power antenna wire is usually used to feed a motorized (up/down) antenna and wasn't sure if the OEM antenna amp was fed the same way or independently.

Question answered, make sure you feed the OEM antenna amplifier with switched or power antenna out power if you want reception!
