There are so many ABS controller/hydraulic units for the 1997 Boxster Tip without TC.

There are:

996 355 955 02

996 355 955 03

996 355 955 04

And then there is all those for M222 and 224 options.

Which one should I use to replace my broken one? I am trying to source it from a wrecker who says he has a few different ones to offer.

03 replaced 02 and should work directly for a MY97.

04 is for a MY2000.

All the standard units are 3 channel ABS (3 hydraulic outlets) and TC/LSD units are 4 channel ABS (4 hydraulic outlets). So if you don't have TC/LSD don't get one that does.

I rang up a Porsche dealer today. They said the 996 355 955 04 actually replaced the 03.

My PET lists 02 and 03 as being for a 1997 Boxster. And the 04 as being for a MY2000 and above. but if you click into 03, it actually says it's replaced by 04.

It's all very confusing.

Yeah, you are right I missed that. The good news is any of the 3 will work on your car.

The PET also says 996 533 933 04 is Hydraulic Unit 5.3. And 996 533 933 02/03 is the plane Hydraulic Unit.

Mitchell's Manual says the differences between the ABS5 and ABS5.3 is that the control unit, hydraulic unit, pump motor relay and valve relay is all in one unit next to the master cylinder.

I seem to recall that my MY97 has everything in one place too by the look of things in the front trunk; which means it is also a ABS5.3. But I can't be sure coz the car is in the workshop at the moment.

Can anyone please confirm whether all Boxster model's use ABS5.3 including MY97 and that the PET just omitted the "5.3" figure in the description?

And what does the "A" mean in front of some part numbers?

I am in Oz and I am going to order the part from departstop in US. Just a bit paranoid about getting the right and best unit (996 533 933 03 or 04) for my MY97.
