new remote key programming

Hi all,

I just bought a remote key head from Suncoast (with barcode). I went to a local repair shop that has the Porsche diagnostic computer and was told that I needed a certificate (that has a special code) from Porsche as well. What certificate was he talking about?? Is this necessary?

You need the IPAS code. This is a list of specific codes to reprogram functions on your car. With proof of ownership you should get them from the dealer.

Are you replacing the key head you have now or is this an addition?

If its a replacement, you can remove the internal rfid chip from your old key head and insert it into the new key head and that will take care of the ignition, then I think you just need to have the car programmed to the key so that it will recognize its freq. an remotely unlock the doors. The RFID chip is a little glass bead which can be removed and replaced.

Its been five years since I had it done, but I think thats what I remember doing.

Thanks. So I guess if I were to have it done by an independent shop, I need to get IPAS separately from the dealer or I can take the car directly to the dealer.

Yes, only the dealer can supply these codes and sometimes they don't like to give them because they know you will get some work done by an independent shop, but these are your codes!
