Been away from Porsche for 5-6 years since my '99 C2 Cab. Considering an '07 Targa 4. Didn't see anything after searching the site. Any thoughts on this model, or things to look out for?

One I'm looking at has 48K miles.

Make sure you do a DME scan and read the ignitions in the over-rev ranges 1-6 (including time stamp) and post results here. Make note of the engine op hours, too.

I'm not aware of any specific issues with the Targa to look out for, other than to make sure it opens/closes easily. But FWIW I've had my 02 Targa for half of it's life and I'm still a huge fan of the model. The back glass makes it very easy to store things behind the rear seats and the ability to open the roof easily means I have it open almost year round. Plus the targa keeps the beautiful lines of the coupe while still allowing a little of the open air feel.

Thanks kgoertz. A follow up question...do you find any rattles/squeaks in the body? One of the reasons I de-selected a cabriolet is due to the rattles and squeaks that come after a few years of driving the less rigid chassis. I know the Targa is based on the cab chassis so thought this may be a risk.

There have been a few squeaks with the roof when going over bumps, but I've been able to solve them with a little grease along the inside of the roof.

It is a real issue although I consider it a minor one. No problems other than the roof. I did hear a rumour that the 996 was based on the coupe chassis (without any reinforcements) but Porsche switched the 997 Targa to use the cab to improve the rigidity.
