My 05 Navigation is too out of date, it's time to get a Nav with touch screen, seamless ipod interface, good 3D nav etc...

Went to a local shop they have the Alpine INE-Z928HD and the Kenwood Excelon DNX9990HD, not being functioning units its hard to evaluate, can't base it on the recommend from the guys that tells me: " If you buy now I give you good deal"....

What are you experiences?

Practical, good GUI? (not iDrive complex?)

Does the 8" Alpine fit?

Do I really need:

(1) head unit

(1) 6 ch amp

(1) steering wheel control module

(1) bose converter

(1) harness

was quoted $3k, no speakers just the above, seem high if only because of where the "negotiation price" started

I used an Alpine for my setup. I have a garage with years of electronic experience so i had done it myself. It is a very complicated job though, had taken me a few weeks on and off to install it. If I were to do it for a customer I would have charged about $3800. I have an 05 TT. I used the Alpine INE S920HD, NAV TV MOST module, ebay rear view camera, Ebay radio mount(I had to fabricate the mount to make it fit), a few radio shack buttons for the ebrake setup to use the video. This system is compatable with the steering wheel controls but there is no display info on the odometer anymore. I didn't mind it though. I love this system much better than the original head unit.
