Dunno if this post should be here or in DIY tips.

Anyway, I know you should not overtighten the bleeder screws, otherwise you either deform or strip them. Both will lead to rendering the seals useless, leaks all over the paint, if not outright brake failure. I tighten it to what I call the "personal pucker factor", if you know what I mean. So far, I've been lucky. Any tips on how to know enough is enough?

I just make sure I return my wrench to the same position it started when I began to loosen the screw. For example, for the inside screw, I usually have the wrench all the way up against the inside fender liner when I start to loosen the screw. I tighten back to the same position.

The service manual actually says 6-9 ft/lbs. Most folks don't have the smaller torque wrench you need for this -- just don't use the 30" one you have for wheels! Like Karl said most folks just tighten it back to where it was. That is certainly what I do.
