Key turns on car but the key wont turn on alarm remotely

I tried searching in the forums but could not find the issue. I just bought a 99 porsche boxster recently and its runs great. ONly problem is that the key starts the car fine but when im outside the car and press the lock button, the car wont lock unless i manually put the key in the door to lock it. The key battery isnt dead i dont believe because light still comes on when i press any button. Do i need to reprogram or what? ANy ideas?

also for some reason when i lock it with the key manually , the lock soud for the car comes on but it doesnt lock. does yours do the same?
