short shifter?

Question for the tech gurus:

I was given a B&M short shift kit (part number 45183) by a friend clearing out his garage. He bought it for his 996 a few years ago and instead of being at the stick side of things it is under the car and next to the transmission. As far as I can figure out it is like a pulley system changing the travel of the shift cables. There is some discussion on another board about this but my real question is whether there is enough similarity in the 996 transmission to the 997 transmission to use on a 997.1 TT?

If it's a 996 Carrera then no.. Not too sure about the 996 Turbo. If you want a short shifter for your 997 TT get the OEM Porsche version.. Try Sunset or Suncoast Porsche for a price. I have the SS and love it..

I do not think B&M sells that under car short shifter anymore.

I believe Loren is correct; the problems with the “under the car” short shifter was that it was “infinitely adjustable”, which ended up meaning there was one way to install it correctly and an infinite number of ways to screw it up. Because of the way it worked, it also had multiple fasteners and adjusters that tended to come loose, usually at the most inappropriate time.

Not one of B&M's better moments..............

I guess that is why they are going so cheap if you google them.......

Will wait awhile on the OEM version, up here it is a $600 item plus ~ $200 install at the dealer.
