2003 ctt 90.000 miles hi guys the last few days i have noticed a little black smoke from the exhaust when i start her ,it only last a couple of seconds ,it doesnt seem to matter if its hot or cold and i dont know long it has been happening ,as i said i spotted it a few days ago so now i look everyday,my question is ,do you think my turbos are on there way out? or is it normal as we tend to use more oil than other cars? im a little worried as i have just given her to my car painter and would like some piece of mind as to weather im going to be forking out for turbos after the paint job..thanks for any help

Sometimes you do get oil pooling in the turbos, if its a lot then service may be required

Monitor the consumption and if it increase then you'll need to investigate the cause. Engine can collect in the turbos, coolers or in any of the many hoses on the system but it is normal... now how much is being burnt is another question.

I would suggest a check with a PIWIS in combination with a HC/CO/CO²/O² tester to be able to follow the combustion process more closely. After all, you speak about black smoke which is caused by either too much fuel, too little air or a combination of both, these are still the basics of combustion. However, burning oil as suggested causes blue smoke, it is up to you to take another good look over what colour it really is. It is in fact very important for further diagnosis and as a measure for the forum members to provide further assistance.

All Cayennes will give a slight puff of black smoke on cold startup; predominantly in colder weather . The mixture is factory set by default to be richer for ease of starting.

My Cayenne doesn't do this.

My Cayenne doesn't do this.

Neither does mine with 155,000 km.
