I have a 2008 Carrera S and the auxilliary fand doesn't run after I turn off the ignition however it runs for 4-5 minute

when I turn the key to the on position. Is there a faulty sending unit or themostat?

Not likely it will only run when the engine compartment is too hot - per DME control.

The fan on my car only runs after many laps at the track and I come off to the pit area. In normal driving I don't recall it ever turning on.

In my '09 C4S when the engine is fully warmed up and I park the car and shut down the engine, the fan comes on after the car has sat for two or three minutes. The fan may then run for several minutes.

On 90 degee days here in so. California I have heard mine come on if stuck in freeway traffic (08C2S). I have also heard it come on shortly after pulling into the garage and shutting off the engine. I do not however hear it come on very often.

Similar for my 2010 Targa 4S
