iPod Mode

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum and new to Porsche. I picked up a 996 facelift on Tuesday and am loveing it so far. I've come from a long line of BMWs so very different experience!

My 996 has an iPod cable in the glovebox but I have know idea how to change the sorce from radio ect to iPod. I'm not sure if it's oem or an aftermarket cable

I have sat Nav and Bose speakers if that makes any difference?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you should try to trace what the iPod cable is connected to. If your car is Model Year 2003 (Sept 2002on) it will have the fibre optic MOST bus, which connects PCM, amp, phone, etc. These require a MOST interface for the iPod, which usually replaces the CD changer. They use the CDC controls on the PCM, but are quite quirky to use.

Look for a box, possibly labelled Dension, NAT-TV, or Mobridge. Once you know which it is, you will be able to download instructions from their web site.

Typically, these work in place of the CD Changer and pretend to be a CD changer, so make sure there is no CD in the front and select CDC. The 6 disks that would normally be selectable become the first 6 playlists. Hope that helps till you pull the car apart (start by looking behind the CD Changer in the front.

Cheers for your help guys, I went to the cd changer that said no CDs so took the sat Nav out to find a connect2 fm module in there iPod works on 88.0 fm so that's all sorted.

However on my investigation I've since found out my cd Carthage won't eject!

Any ideas on this one?

There's probably no power to the CDC in the trunk. Make sure it's plugged in..

Not sure about the CDC4 (which you will have) but on the earlier CDC3 there is a small flap in the side, which contains a fuse that is sometimes the culprit.

From a UK Porsche forum. This quote is from an independent Porsche Specialist:

There are some black self tapping screws holding the cover over the cd changer. Remove these. The bracket holding the cd changer in has two 10mm bolts. Undo these and carefully remove the black multiplug and the orange fibre optic cable. On the base of the changer where the cables are plugged in there are two or three screws. Undo these and then you will see the fuse. You will need to get a fuse from Maplins or any other electrical shop.
