I have a 2003 model year UK spec 2.7 tiptronic, only 34,000 miles. Last week took it for a drive, after about 8-10 miles pulled on to a motorway and noticed that it had not changed up into 5th. The D and 4 lights were flashing and i could not change gear manually. Pulled into a service area, could not get the flashing D-4 lights to clear so got it recovered to my local independent Porsche specialist, the fault code P0706 (multi-function switch) was read, but after clearing the fault code they drove the car using the auto and manual modes but could not get it to return.

They are in the process of doing all the wiring checks called for in the manual for this code, but just wanted to ask you guy's if you have any experience, hints or tips relating to this fault?

P0706 Selector lever switch implausible

Possible fault cause:

- Fuse E1 is faulty

- Short circuit to B+/ground or open circuit in wiring harness from the multi-function switch

- Multi-function switch is faulty

- Tiptronic control module is faulty
