How do I remove the rear center console lid? How do I put it back on? I am exchanging the console for a silver one. Help. Thanks

You will need to remove the console to change the lid (unless you want to try and drill out the pop-rivets and then pop-rivet in the new one). There is a link at the beginning of the post below with the B&M short shifter instructions. These are are very good as they have pics and step by step to remove the console. You just won't be doing the shifter stuff.

console/trim post

The hinge replacement instruction (for broken hinges) are in TSB 6/99 6848 Oddments Tray Cover (dated 4-14-00). As a contributing member you have access to this TSB.

How do I rivet the hinge using the supplied pop rivets? Do I need a special tool to pop rivet the hinge?

Well, in a pinch I've use a pair of pliers - almost hit me in the face though.

A pop rivet tool is available at most hardware stores and doesn't cost much. Racers use them to hold sheet metal in place on race cars and obviously you can use a metal rivet on places that get hot - unlike racers tape (or duct tape).

Thanks Loren. I bought a rivet gun and it worked out well. However having trouble putting back in the spring. I am not sure if I installed it coerect. It makes a clicking noise when I raise the lid.

I had to adjust the spring and put some lube and its perfect now. Thanks again Loren. Here is a pic of what I was talking about.
