Carrera Remote vs Non-Remote Keys

My 996 only came with one set of keys and no owners manual. Sunset Porsche Parts gave me a rundown below for a set of keys:

Option 1: remote head $107.59 + pre-cut blad $102.13 + programming $____ = Total: TBD.

Option 2: non remote head $27.35 + pre-cut $102.13 = Total $129.48

Other than activating the car alarm, is there any other difference that I need to know when using the non-remote head option? Obviously, cheaper choice and easier to hot-wire if someone wants to drive it away, etc....

• To order the pre-cut key blade, we would need you to fax or email us a copy of your driver’s license and registration. The addresses on these documents would need to match the address we are shipping the key to.
  
• These prices do not include shipping costs to get to you.

It won't be any easier to hotwire based on what key you use... the car is pretty much impossible to start without a key containing a tranpsonder pill programed for the immobilizer.

The only difference with using the valet key head (without the remote buttons) is that it you have to use the door lock to lock/unlock the door and activate/deactivate the alarm, versus pressing a button on the remote. Also, if you have a cab or remote trunk opening capabilities, those functions can not be actuated remotely. Other than that it will function just the same as a regular key.

You can save some money by getting the actual blade cut by a local locksmith. I had it done for less than $20 after giving him my original key to copy the cut pattern from.

He was also able to "make a clone" of my key by putting the key with the new head (which contained a "blank" transponder pill) into a cloning device that many locksmiths have. That allowed the new key to open the door lock, turn on the ignition and start the car. The new key did not operate any of the remote functions.

You guys just saved me $$hundreds. I'll go w/ valet/non-remote head for now and spend the money on new tires since my one remote still works. I'll check Ebay for other sellers.
