I wasn't able to get that bolt off under the intake. I think it's an 8mm bolt (I was almost able to get a wrench on it) and so I opted to cut the line on both sides of that bracket, put the new line/valve in place and then zip tie it to the old piece of line I left attached to the bracket. I will probably take the manifolds off over Winter when I clean them and the throttle body.

It's too soon to see if the P0446 code is fixed, but my other annoying symptom has gone away, which was it was very hard to start after fueling up. I filled up this morning started right up without issue. Previously I had to crank for a bit and hit the gas pedal to start up and then keep it running for a moment before moving as it sometimes stalled. I'm glad that is solved, that was getting very annoying.

I'll update when I've driven a few hundred miles.

PS. I am doing research to tackle p0446 myself. I have no hard starting symptoms. I did notice lots of vacuum when opening gas tank cap at fillup time, defn more than normal. Thank you to all those that posted in this thread - very useful info!

I forgot to mention that sometimes after the car gets hot(preferably after a longish commute and stuck in traffic in swealtering heat) I can suddenly smell gas really heavily - as if something has opened and decided to dump gas. I am thinking purge line leaking/cracked/disconnected on top of the engine.

I am plannign to drop my engine soon (as soon as the extra cold weather relents over the East Coast to just cold weather) and go through it for several tasks - hopefully I will see something then..

I have the same P0446 problem. Want to replace Evap Cannister purge value in page 1. The diagram shows it as part #1. Can somebody please tell me where it is in the car? If there is a picture associated with it, that would be great too.

I have no clue where to look. the EVAP cannister housing is inside the wheel well I know. But part #1 which is at the other end going to intake manifold or something is what I am looking for.

The purge valve is under the intake manifold runners, as noted earlier in this tread.  Item #20 in this diagram:

LOREN.. I have the same 99 996 as yours. I am wondering should I be able to blow each way through the line and blue valve in your photo? It is called the Vacuum Control Valve #9 in the diagram above.  I am getting po446. When the line is disconnected top and bottom and taken from the canister. I can blow each way through the line passed the blue vacuum control valve. No electrics attached to the line. Should I be able to do this? I expected it to be like a 'one way' valve but mine is not. That fact may be why I get the 446 codde The next time you are in there, could youy please blow through the line for me and let me know the outcome. Thanks in advance.
