On board Computer Message

When I fired up my 2002 c4s manual this morning and backed out of garage i stopped while waiting for garage door to close and my on board computer flashed Go to WorkShop ABS failure and PMS failure. i turned off the car and restarted and everything back to normal no messages on the computer. Anyone have this happen to them and is this just a 1 time glitch or something else to come?

Did you perhaps just have the car smog tested?

There are some computer run tests that can cause that as a temporary condition, In those cases it should clear in 5 miles or so.

If it does not clear or contines to happen then it might be good to check the car with a Porsche PST2, or PIWIS tester

Low battery charge can also cause odd faults like this.

Thanks for the advice. I just put a charger on my car, battery was on the low side. Will see if I get it again in the morning. I let my 16 year old drive and he just called me in a panic when the codes showed up again after he refueled the car. I told him to turn it off and let it cycle then restart and the computer message board was normal.

FYI we have no smog test in southern Utah

I had this problem with no pattern at all. I would go a week with no message then get an error 5 starts in a row.

Turned out to be my brake switch at the pedal. Swapped it out and no more ABS/PSM errors.

Thanks zman2002 C4S it is still happening intermitenly. I will chase that route. Is it an easy swap. Is it at the brake pedal itself?

Great to know, this was also the fix for the same fault on my BMW X5 a few weeks ago... What is with brake switches and their linkages to engine and abs?
