Hi,

My driver seat in my 2004 C2 Cab makes a binding creaking sound when moved front to back etc. It looks like a common problem and I've read the TSB. I can likely tackle the TSB if I can figure out how to get the seats out, but my question is are they are other things I can try first vs. removing the seats?

thanks,

Simon

swynn97, how did you resolve your noisy seats issue? I have the same problem on my 996 targa. I had thought I might take out the offending passenger seat when I was working on the SSK but did not want to jinx a project going well. So I now have a great shifting car with one very noisy passenger seat. Curious if it was obvious once the seat was out how to remedy the noise. Thanks.

I actually haven't since I didn't get a response. I don't want to have airbag issues etc., and mine is the driver seat, so if I can't reinstall it I'm kinda screwed. I'm thinking of just handing this to my independent and having them performe the TSB...

If you do not want airbag issues - disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected until you have effected your repair and re-installed the seats and their electrical connector.

BTW... an airbag light is simple to clear with Durametric, A PST2, or PIWIS tester. However, accidentally triggering an airbag will be expensive and may possibly cause injury.

Hi Loren,

Are there any instructions on how to remove the seats? I did a search but couldn't fine anything. I'd also need the torque values when re-installing. I have a 2004 C2 with full power and heated seats.

1. Disconnect the battery (so you do cause an airbag light).

2. Removing seat rail cover 2A. Unscrew the sheet metal screws out of the seat rail cover at the front 2A. Pull seat rail cover on front end 2A out of the right and left seat rails in forward direction.

3. Removing seat rail cover 2B. Insert a screwdriver under the locking tabs and press lightly upwards.

Caution! Locking tabs can break.

Pull front seat rail cover 2B out of the right and left seat rails towards the front.

4. Move seat to its rear limit position and undo the front M10 x 28 (external) Torx screws 3 from the right and left seat rails using an E12 socket wrench insert.

5. Move seat to its front limit position and undo the M10 x 28 (external) Torx screws 3 from the right and left seat rails using an E12 socket wrench insert.

6. Release plug connector locking device on the side (arrow) and separate the plug connection.

Install is the reverse. Seat bolts torque is 65 Nm (48 ftlb.).
