Hi

It seems that I have a small leak at my right side radiator, which causes me to refill coolant once every 5000 km. Recently I just changed my coolant so I wonder if you can change the radiator with out flushing the entire system?

regards

John

You can pinch the hoses off while replacing it, but if the coolant is 5 or more years old, it would be a good time to change it.

Thanks. The coolant i only half a year old, so I will try to keep the coolant. Do you fill the radiator with coolant to avoid air pockets or is that irrelevant?

regards

John

You can catch the coolant in a (clean) bucket or tub then filter it through cheesecloth before reusing.

Even if you were able to partially fill the new radiator you would still need to to bleed the system of any air pockets. You can try doing that with the bleeder valve on the top of the coolant tank. It might take a week of driving and topping up daily or you can find someone with the proper vacuum fill device and do it once and be done.
