Lifespan of my 997.1 MY06

Hi all,

I have a question that has been circulating for a few months now so I thought I'd pose it here to see what you guys thought.

Having never kept a car this long before and done so many kilometers in it, 110k, I was wondering how long I can realistically expect to keep using it on a day-to-day basis before it starts falling apart and key components start to fail that start costing a large amount to fix. I do around 30k kilometers per year driving to and from work and or holidays etc and a couple of track days here and there but in general it is not abused regularly.

Can I expect another seven or eight years of daily use or am I looking at needing to replace it when it gets to around the ten year mark? I have become very attached to it as a result of the experiences I have had with it and the places I've been so I would be loathe to trade it in unless I had to, or it made overwhelming sense to do so. I know there are people around with 25+ year old Porsches, but I actually use mine as a daily drive so I don't expect it to last that long.

There are plenty of 996's and 986's on the road that are now 12 or 13 years old with well over 100k or even 150k MILES. There are even some who frequent the forums with near 250k miles and just regular maintenance performed, perhaps a few mechanical issues along the way.

If you maintain the car properly I see no reason why it couldn't last just as long or longer.

I personally never worry about such things. Maintain the vehicle and enjoy it, if things start to go south and the expense gets too much for you to handle then shift the vehicle.

Mine has 72k miles and I've had very few problems. I hope it remains reliable, because I plan on keeping it for my kids!

Mine has 110km's on it and it rides very smooth and tight as if it were brand new. I've been told by my Porsche Mechanic that this car is pretty bullet proof if you keep to the maintenance schedules and deal with any issues you may get right away. The 911 can last a very long time depending on how you take care of it.

Ok well thanks for your replies folks, I'll keep you posted. I intend to keep it until it goes bang, which may well happen at the Nurburgring next month but lets see :)

You're a lucky guy Sam to be able to drive around the Nurburgring! That is on one of my to do's before I'm 30, I can imagine it being the greatest feeling alive whipping around the corners. Sticking to the 911 until the end, I plan to do the same haha! Good luck, hope to hear soon about your experiences :)
