Hi All,

My 968 radiator fan is always on as long as the ignition key is on. It shuts off when the car is shut off. This happened when a hose sprung a leak. That is all fixed, the car runs nice and cool, now. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what night be causing this - a bad sensor or something, maybe?

Thank you for any thoughts.

Monte

Not 100% sure on the 968 but on the 944 on the left upper part of the radiator( just under the upper rad hose) was the rad fan cooling thermo switch. The contacts could sometimes fuse together, just unplug the switch and if the fans stop then you need to replace the unit.

that's not actually right. if you disconnect the switch, the fans will stop, whether the switch works or not.

to test the switch, you need to use jumper wires.

it is possible that a relay is bad. it is also possible that the resistor blocks on the firewall are dirty or bad

is it the low speed or high speed fans that are on? is it 1 fan or both fan?

If the relay was faulty it must be fused which would cause the fans to operate constantly not just with ignition key operation.... unless something is different on the 968 as I'm more familiar with the 944.
