Burning smell

When I drive my 2006 c2s cab it smells like the engine is burning. I have heard about the cosmoline smell that is typical with these cars, but this seems to go above and beyond. That was the dealer's response when I asked about it - cosmoline.

It is to the point that passengers comment about it when the top is down, when we stop at a stoplight. It has had this smell this since I bought it 6 months ago. Doesn't seem normal. I don't drive particularly spirited either. Even on a short ride, never reving above 4k rpm, I pull into garage and smell that burn smell. I don't think a car should offend its passengers or owner! No other car I have owned smells this way. Any suggestions?

I love the smells my car makes. Sometimes I'll go out in the garage after a drive and just smell. I know, it's probably bad for me, but I don't care. No other car I've ever owned smells like this. It's how every car should smell if you ask me.

You are describing a burning smell. Burning is not an adjective I would use to describe my cars smells. Perhaps on your car a piece of under body or cowling is rubbing on something like a wheel, maybe a wheel bearing is gone, or perhaps something that can melt is contacting a very hot surface such as the exhaust or engine.

Maybe the best thing to do is find someone who is familiar with the smells ride in your car and comment, or take it to a shop when it's smelling and have it on a lift, to see if anything looks suspect.

There are quite a few discussions on here about the burning smell. On my car it is definitely from rubber from the rear tires melting on the exhaust. I can get rid of the smell for a month or two by taking the car to a power wash and spraying down the mufflers and exhaust pipes.

On the other hand I treat the smell as confirmation that I am getting the most from my car :-)

Never reving above 4k rpm? :huh: Why? Your engine hates that...Drive the car hard... That's what it's made for.. You will have fewer problems and maintenance down the road..

As for the smell.. I agree with Logray. I love that smell. If you are concerned do what he said and get it on a lift to see if you have some kind of "rub". Hope you solve your issue...

I guess I will learn to love the smell of 'napalm in the morning'. I will be more forceful with the car...drive like it likes to be ridden. thanks for the input!

The car is best above 5k, then the smell is rubber on the exhaust.

You may be having a problem with the car running hot.

Push the wing button next time you drive.
