MY 07, 987, 17kmiles: Warning light started on/off routine...check tire pressure with GOOD gauge, tires right on the money. Warning comes on again,...can't access the tire size, etc menus....Dealer says batteries in TPMs are going south, $1200 for 4 sensors....Anybody have an alternate solution? The dealer can't/won't "disable" the warning....19" wheels, checked frequently...Suggestions?...thanks...Jim.....Thanks Phillip...I know its a hose over...only Dealer within 120 miles, and not sure the local "exotic" indie can pull it off...Another Federal MANDATE that burdens the public.....no question the "direct" measuring is the most accurate, but the cost of dismounting the tires because a battery is crapping out?..Spoke to one supplier, said the sensors are literally bulletproof..they are totally encased in kryptonite.....what a rip.......thanks.....jb

If you need new sensors DO NOT HAVE THE DEALER DO THE WORK!. 4 new sensors should cost you a little over $400. Go to a reputable tire and wheel shop (or Porsche indie) that works on high end cars. They should be able to help you. If you want to know how bad your dealer is trying to screw you here is an example (see link below) of the sensor price (for your car) from Suncoast Porsche.

I hate dealers.... $1,200 ?????

Perhaps an indie with a PIWIS tester can search for faults to try and trouble shoot your TPMS messages... There are a lot of Porsches in Arizona...No good indies????

While dealers, and indies, can turn off the TPMS, you will find that for the most part, none of them will due to the liability issues with disabling a Federally mandated safety system.

$1200 is excessive. You can probably find suitable replacement sensors in the after market for $60-85 each, so do a search. But you are still going to have to dismount the tires to replace them, then mount and rebalance the tires, which is going to cost $. When people ask about this type of problem, we normally suggest budgeting $100 per wheel for the sensors and about 1 1/2 hours shop time at the prevailing local rate.
