Hi all,

Just wanted to post this to warn other owners about the outrageous markup charged by dealerships for replacing tyres on the 997.1.

My story goes as follows, for Michelin Pilot Sport N2 235/35/19/87Y (fronts on C2S)

Porsche Dealership quote - 1100 EUR including fitting.

I had them done for 580 EUR including fitting.

Now that's over 500 EUR difference on exactly the same raw materials - Michelins. I know they like to markup a little but this one nearly made me choke on my own tongue.

I live in France and if anyone wants the website for the tyres its www.pneus-online.fr . They have other sites covering most of Europe including the UK so go have a look before you get a dumb guy in a Porsche suit trying to stick his finger up your bum for the privilege of entering his showroom.

Oh and he also told me that the new 991 was 'nothing like' the current 997. By this time I was finding it hard to restrain myself from physically attacking him and had to beat a hasty retreat.

i buy tires from http://www.mytyres.co.uk/ for both 996 and my Cayenne. in fact i try to go to Porsche dealers as little as possible. Battery, tyres, oil are a total ripoff at Porsche but then again probably only 30% of Porsche drivers can find where the battery is in the car and of those 30% half will be scared to mess up some electroncs.

Samuel,

I had to laugh when I read your post. I too have almost physically attacked personel at the dealership. As a rule we never go the the dealership for anything other than warranty work. They are criminals and like the other gentleman said they pray on the ignorant.

Glad you got your tires sorted..

I had a good laugh reading your post too. I guess we've all been through this one time or another at an authorized Porsche Dealership.

My mechanic I have is a Porsche Expert and had many years worked for Porsche. He's since then opened his own garage to service exotic cars in my town and charges a third of the price for what I would have paid at the authorized dealership. All parts are genuine and he strictly only installs genuine Porsche parts. He's an honest family guy, with a family run business. He's always a pleasure to talk with and works on my car with great passion as if it were is own. I trust the man 100% with my baby. On a side note, his side project is a full rebuild from scratch on a 930 that is almost complete.

Just goes to show if you do some research around town you can always find something that works for you. I believe in a maintaining a good relationship with experts you work with, weather it be your mechanic, doctor, hair dresser, lawyer, etc.

Sorry for the long post, but the point is, put some time into a bit of research and I'm sure you'll find something that works great for you. Getting ripped from the authorized dealership for your hard earned money is not the only option!

Thanks for the post Sam, its great knowledge for other Porsche owners!

Cheers!
