I guess this site is more technically oriented so help me figure out what this noise is. I can only hear it after engine is warm. Intermittent at idle. Fan not running. I can only hear it inside the car. I tried to listen with engine compartment open but cannot hear it from there. I have a sound clip video but you have to crank volume up or have good speakers to hear it. It is like a grinding/squealing. Passed by dealer to listen to it briefly. Didn't think it's from belts. Where do you think it's coming from?

In your profile is marked Carrera 2005 as car which of course is no a DFI. Anyway, i would take a look, depending on the specific gearbox or clutch, or the sound does not come from that area. There is more info needed on car-gearbox-options, etc.

Did you ever discover what this was? I have the same noise as the one posted....

I have changed the belt and thought it solved the issue but seems to come back intermittently now. I checked all guides and followings with the belt off and I noticed a very, very slight play in the water pump....

I have a feeling that it is the water pump on its way out - any other suggestions from prior experience/problems anyone?

p.s. it is also a 3.6 DFI 2010.

I had a similar noise on my 2009 C4s and it was the water pump too. Alas water pumps don't last long even on the 9A1 engine.
